Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming original series Happy Face, a gripping true-crime drama based on the life of Melissa G. Moore. Starring Annaleigh Ashford, Dennis Quaid, James Wolk, David Harewood, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, and Benjamin Mackey, the show is inspired by Moore’s own story and the Happy Face podcast she co-created with iHeartPodcasts, as well as her memoir Shattered Silence.
Happy Face follows the shocking and emotional journey of Melissa G. Moore (played by Annaleigh Ashford), who discovered at the age of 15 that her father, Keith Hunter Jesperson (played by Dennis Quaid), was the notorious serial killer known as the Happy Face Killer. After years of keeping her true identity a secret, Melissa’s life takes a dark turn when her father, now serving life in prison, reappears in her life. In a race against time, Melissa is determined to uncover the truth about a man wrongly convicted of a crime, while grappling with the devastating legacy left by her father and the pain it caused to his victims' families.
Written and showrun by Jennifer Cacicio, Happy Face dives deep into the emotional toll of living with the truth of having a serial killer as a parent, while exploring themes of justice, family, and identity. The series is co-written by Inda Craig Galvan, Bam Johnson, and Adam Toltzis, and directed by Michael Showalter and Darren Grant.
